The 2010 Census is a nationwide effort to count the more than 310 million people living in the United States – including the nearly
20 million residents of New York.
In March 2010, the Census Bureau will mail, or hand deliver, its shortest questionnaire ever to each American household – just 10 questions – that can be answered in less than 10 minutes.

Every New Yorkers should fill out his or her census form at their
primary place of residence. But given the incredibly diverse – and
incredibly mobile – population in New York, that’s not always so
easy to determine.
Information about these special activities is being sent to the
principal of every school serving K-8 students.

You can learn a lot about your town, city, and state from past
census data – from the number of people living in a section of
Syracuse to the average age of people in Yonkers to the density of
Manhattan, the most densely populated county in the country.
