Every New Yorkers should fill out his or her census form at their primary place of residence. But given the incredibly diverse – and incredibly mobile – population in New York, that’s not always so easy to determine.
The Census Bureau is making a special effort to reach out to
students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
This
Census in Schools program has its own website.
This site includes information for teachers, kids, and teens. There
are activities for students, including coloring pages and state
facts pages, and lesson plans for teachers.
Information about these special activities is being sent to the
principal of every school serving K-8 students.
You can learn a lot about your town, city, and state from past census data – from the number of people living in a section of Syracuse to the average age of people in Yonkers to the density of Manhattan, the most densely populated county in the country.
